Call for Papers

35th PLEA Conference - Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design

Researchers & practitioners from the domains of architecture, engineering, urban planning, building science, landscape design, computer science, philosophy, psychology, sociology, economy, and other relevant disciplines who can contribute to the discussion are invited.

They invite submissions that present cutting edge, original research that focuses on one of the following tracks:

• Sustainable Buildings (energy efficient buildings, health and wellbeing, material technology, vernacular and refurbishment)

• Resources (renewable energies, technologies, circular economy, nature based solutions, urban metabolism)

• Resilient and Extreme Design (adaptation, self-sufficiency, relief, urban climate, climate change, vulnerability, risk management)

• Sustainable communities (urban climate, outdoor comfort, mobility, walkability, planning and policies, culture and society, future city visions, green infrastructure)

• Analysis and methods (simulation and design tools, surveying and monitoring methods)

• Education, awareness and dissemination (architectural training for sustainability, professional development, sustainable initiatives and environmental activism)

World Water Congress and Exhibition - Water for smart liveable cities

The 2020 World Water Congress & Exhibition in Copenhagen, Denmark is designed to bring together over 10,000 water professionals from academia, utilities, industry, government, regulators and NGOs and also engage the water-consuming industry, agriculture, architects and urban planners, hydrologists and soil and groundwater experts, social sciences, ICT-sector, the financial sector and others.

Themes and topics:

• Theme 1: Water utility management

• Theme 2: Wastewater tratment and resource recovery

• Theme 3: Drinking water and portable reuse

The University of Helsinki has opened a position for a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Urban and Regional Studies.

Helsinki Institute of Urban and Regional Studies is seeking a talented and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher in Urban Geography to participate the research activities of the research group in Urban Dynamics and Segregation.

Assistant Professor in Urban and Regional Planning (Tenure-Track position, 0.8 - 1.0 FTE)

The Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning has developed the challenging research programme ‘Urban Futures: Transitions Towards Economic and Social Sustainability’. 

The Department is responsible for the undergraduate programme in Human Geography and Spatial Planning and for a number of graduate programmes like Spatial Planning, Human Geography (urban and economic geography), International Development Studies and GIS.

Our ambition with this Assistant Professorship (Tenure-Track) is to further develop the ‘Urban Futures’ programme through innovative contributions from urban and regional planning. We are searching for an ambitious new colleague whose previous research activities and publication record reflect a strong interest and proven expertise in the governance and planning of sustainable urban futures and the effectiveness and legitimacy of different urban governance arrangements.
