In 2015, the EUROLOC and EURA Summer School on “INNOVATIONS IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT” will be co-organized by:

  • Prof. Dr. Kristof Steyvers,
  • and Prof. Dr. Henk van der Kolk (EUROLOC/EURA),
  • and the COST Action “Local Public Sector Reforms (LocRef)” (Prof. Sabine Kuhlmann, Christian Schwab from the University of Potsdam)

 It will take place in Spetses, Greece from September 13th to 17th, 2015

5 Full Scholarship (& 2 additional Positions) in the Urban Planning, Design and Policy PhD Programme at Politecnico di Milano (UPDP)

The UPDP Programme focuses on urban, social, economic and institutional transformations in contemporary cities and it aims at fostering innovative and interdisciplinary research. Applicants are requested to submit a research proposal with reference to topics of their interest. We encourage proposals covering topics such as :
• Multi-scalar regional urbanization processes
• Advances and challenges in contemporary planning theory and practice
• Urban transitions towards sustainability
• Social and economic changes and their effects on spatial development processes
• Tools for the evaluation and management of urban projects
• European cities, urban policies in Europe, the EU urban policy agenda.

The TU Dortmund Technical University’s Faculty of Spatial Planning is the largest educational institute of its kind in Europe. The faculty is specialized in multi-thematic spatial planning for cities, urban landscapes and regions. Requirements:

  • Msc or Diploma in one of the relevant disciplines (Human Geography, Planning,

  • Political Science, Sociology)

  • Good knowledge of European planning systems

  • Experience in more than one national planning system is of advantage

Area of responsibility:

Teaching (BA and Msc):

  • European Planning Systems

  • Metropolitan governance and planning in Europe
  • (Teaching can be done in English)

Research:

  • Comparative empirical research of planning practices in Europe

  • Aspects of European spatial development (migration, transport, etc.)

  • Comparative urban research in Europe

The salary is according to German legislation in public service and depending upon the education degree up to the level 13 TV-L, respectively according to TVÜ-L. The position is a part-time job (50%).

The opportunity to do a PhD is given. An exposé of 2-3 pages describing the topic of the PhD-thesis should be part of the application.
