EURA CONVERSATIONS

INTRODUCING THE NEW EURA CONVERSATIONS SERIES

EURA Conversations, a new digital space for international exchange between urban scholars, was created on our website in May 2020. The idea was to provide a democratic arena to share experiences, offer reflections and encourage dialogue within the EURA community not just about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cities, but also to consider how cities and communities in different countries and contexts have responded to this calamity.

By summer 2022 some 46 EURA Conversation contributions, written by urban scholars from 30 different countries, had been posted. In October 2022 the EURA Conversation series entered a new era, one which aims to make the series more interactive. From that date each EURA Conversation now provides space for two voices: a leader setting out an idea, and a responder offering an initial reaction. We have also made it much easier for readers to contribute their ideas to the international conversation via the comments section below each contribution. We hope that this new format will be attractive to you.

Please consider commenting on the opinions you see expressed in each EURA Conversation. We also welcome any proposals that you may have for topics that you would like to see discussed in this international space. If you have an idea for a EURA Conversation piece, please send us an email to secretariat@eura.org

We look forward to hearing from you!

From Robin Hambleton's opening Conversation on Leadership, through cycling, healthy spaces, to Africa, the Caribbean and Aeotearoa-New Zealand, to mental health, inequalities and public protest, it has been an amazing journey. Yet there was a frustration. As one of the co-editors, I am probably as guilty of this as any other reader. Like others, I ‘liked’ Conversations but I did not interact any further. Yet, it was supposed to be a conversation [...] Read more
