Emerging Scholar Award
Established in 2007, the EURA Emerging Scholar Award recognises outstanding scholarship in urban affairs by an early-career researcher. Originally known as the EURA Award for Junior Urban Researchers and subsequently as the Young Scholar Award, the prize is awarded in connection with the EURA annual conference.
The recipient receives a €1,000 travel grant to support their participation in the following EURA or Urban Affairs Association (UAA) conference. The winner is normally announced during the EURA conference.
Eligibility
Conference participants undertaking doctoral or postdoctoral research, regardless of academic discipline, are eligible to apply. Doctoral applicants must have an approved dissertation proposal. Applicants are not required to be EURA members.
To be considered for the award, applicants must have a proposal accepted for presentation in one of the conference tracks and submit a full paper before the conference. Additional eligibility requirements, deadlines and submission procedures may be established by the organisers of each conference edition.
Nomination and selection
Conference track chairs nominate a limited number of outstanding papers. The final decision is made by the EURA Awards Committee, taking into account the recommendations of the conference chairs. The Committee is currently composed of Filipe Teles (Chair), Ignazio Vinci, Cristiana Rossignolo, Carsten Jahn Hansen, Geir Heierstad and Dubravka Jurlina Alibegović.
Publication
In addition to receiving the travel grant, the winner may be invited to submit their paper to EURA’s journal, Urban Research & Practice. Any submission is subject to the journal’s standard editorial and peer-review process.

Best Conference Paper Award
The EURA Best Conference Paper Award recognises an outstanding paper presented at the EURA annual conference.
Eligibility
All conference participants whose abstract proposal has been accepted for presentation in one of the conference tracks are eligible. Authors are not required to be EURA members.
Nomination and selection
Conference track chairs nominate the best papers presented within their respective tracks. The nominated papers are reviewed by the EURA Awards Committee, which makes the final decision. The Committee is currently composed of Filipe Teles (Chair), Ignazio Vinci, Cristiana Rossignolo, Carsten Jahn Hansen, Geir Heierstad and Dubravka Jurlina Alibegović.
Publication
The author or authors of the winning paper may be invited to submit their work for publication in a dedicated special issue of EURA’s journal, Urban Research & Practice. All submissions are subject to the journal’s standard editorial and peer-review process.
