URBAN RESEARCH & PRACTICE
Urban Research & Practice was launched on to the urban academic scene in 2008 in conjunction with EURA, as an outlet for reflecting on ‘the rich diversity of thought, approach and research that currently characterises the study of urban areas in Europe and elsewhere’ (Atkinson 2008, 1) and for contributing to the understanding of ‘a world that is becoming increasingly urbanised and in which new and exciting urban forms are emerging’ (ibid., 2).
The journal publishes research of the highest quality relating to the challenges facing urban environments today including papers that:
- provide a critical and/or comparative perspective of urban issues, urban developments, urban policies or urban policy making and policy implementation at various scales,
- seek to explain, analyse and/or evaluate variations in and effects of urban policies or urban governance cross-sectorally, cross-nationally or temporally,
- analyse European and International factors that impact on urban areas, urban policies and urban governance,
- explore and evaluate urban sustainability including environmental, social and economic dimensions,
- analyse how cities – through public policies, place-based actions, and bottom-up initiatives – meet the changing needs of their communities, whilst addressing major challenges such as social inequalities, social segregation and climate change.
