21-24 April 1999, Oslo, Norway
This small international workshop, hosted by the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research (NIBR) in Oslo, was focussed on sharing international insights on innovations in urban governance. Sixteen presentations from nine different countries were presented. The countries participating were Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, UK, and USA.
The presentations were structured into the following seven sessions:
- Transforming local governing institutions
- Civic engagement
- Innovations in Oslo
- Local government in context
- Exploring innovation themes
- Citizen involvement
- The future research agenda for EURA
The workshop was a great success, and, over a period, it led to the development of an international research project on ‘Participation, Leadership and Urban Sustainability’ (PLUS) funded by the EU 4th Framework Programme of Research and Development.
