Area-based Initiatives in Contemporary Urban Policy: Innovations in City Governance – EURA

Area-based Initiatives in Contemporary Urban Policy: Innovations in City Governance

7-9 May 2001, Copenhagen, Denmark

The Danish Building and Urban Research Institute hosted the EURA international conference in Copenhagen in May 2001.  This conference marked a major expansion in the international profile and influence of EURA.  Organised by Jacob Norvig Larsen and Hans Kristensen this conference aimed to advance understanding of area-based initiatives in contemporary urban policy.

This EURA Conference attracted over 140 participants from 24 countries and 62 papers were presented.  The conference was noteworthy, not only for the expansion of international contributions to the European discourse about the future of cities, but also for the active inclusion of speakers from the European Commission.

The conference started with a colloquium on the EU Framework Programme ‘Cities of tomorrow and cultural heritage’ and subsequent sessions explored ways of strengthening links between academic understanding and EU policy makers.
