Mobile workshops at EURA 2026

The EURA 2026 Annual Conference offers participants the opportunity to explore Venice through a wide range of mobile workshops. These workshops will take urban scholars across the historic centre, the lagoon islands and the mainland, highlighting the multiple geographies that shape the Venetian urban system.

Venice is a particularly meaningful case among heritage-rich urban centres worldwide, not only because of its historic urban landscape, but also because of the dramatic growth in tourism experienced over recent decades. The mobile workshops will offer participants the opportunity to engage directly with key urban issues, places and stakeholders.

Available mobile workshops

• Forte Marghera and the line of Austrian fortresses
  Exploring the “land gate of Venice”, a former nineteenth-century defensive structure now transformed into a cultural centre and an example of culture-driven urban regeneration.
• Circus social housing neighbourhood in Chirignago
  Visiting a social housing complex in Mestre, built in the 1970s, where community initiatives now address socio-economic deprivation and provide new social and cultural services.
• The countryside in the lagoon: exploring Sant’Erasmo
  Discovering the island of Sant’Erasmo, where food policies, food landscapes, local cuisine and sustainable agricultural practices contribute to a resilient food system.
• A walk through public housing neighbourhoods in Venice old town
  Exploring public housing districts in Venice, with a walk around Giudecca to understand the role of public housing in shaping the history, culture and urban character of the old city.
• Venice historic centre through its squeri
  Visiting traditional artisan shipyards and rowing clubs, where Venice’s historic boat-building practices, including gondolas and sandoli, have been preserved over generations.
• In-between port-city interface
  Exploring Venice through the lens of the city-port relationship, including the changing role of the port, the relocation of the cruise terminal, and the future of this strategic urban interface.

Participation in the mobile workshops is subject to prior registration. The exact organisation of the trips will be set up in collaboration with representatives of stakeholders and sponsors.
