Framing Metropolitan Cohesion Policies: Exploring Urban-Rural Partnerships
Overview:
Metropolitan regions and areas in Europe represent over 100 million inhabitants. They contribute the metropolitan dimension to policies, programmes and projects on a European scale by bringing urban and rural areas together.
It is this approach that inspires our forthcoming Autumn Conference. Portugal’s metropolitan areas and intermunicipal associations will join those from other parts of Europe to debate the uncertain future of the EU’s flagship Cohesion Policy after its current term ends in 2027, as well as how its Rural Vision can shape a positive future of both urban and rural territories.
The conference will also focus on how the metropolitan level can bring urban and rural communities together to respond at scale to challenges such as housing, climate change, energy production and transport. METREX will explain its Manifesto for a Metropolitan Europe, which launches in early November and seeks to engage the EU on supporting the metropolitan level in bringing solutions.
